We are familiar with the school motto - "self-improvement, moral commitment", is derived from Mr. Liang Qichao in 1914 in Tsinghua "Gentleman" speech。This speech has inspired generations of Tsinghua students to strive forward and become pillars of the country。
The musical poem and painting drama "I wish to commit myself to the country" reappears the magnificent chapter of China's "two bombs and one star" cause。Through various art forms such as music and recitation, it reproduces that difficult and deeply moving time。Qian Xuesen, Qian Sanqiang, Wang Daheng, Peng Huanwu...Looking at these respectable names, listening to the line after line of hot poems, the teachers and students present can feel the deep love of these great scientists for the country, and can appreciate the responsibility and responsibility behind "I am willing to commit myself to the country"。
For me, the biggest takeaway from watching it was that it solved a puzzle。This semester we read "the Analects of Confucius", Confucius highly praises the moral conduct of "gentleman", but in life, what should a gentleman be？How to be a real gentleman？The ancestors in "I Wish to Serve My Country" provided the answer with practical actions。For a gentleman, the first priority is the mission of the country。Whether it is Qian Xuesen, who has been under house arrest for 5 years, every move has been monitored by the United States, and the heart of returning home has not changed, or Guo Yonghuai, who resolutely gave up the excellent conditions of tenured professors at Cornell University, they have interpreted what is the gentleman's character of "coming to the festival and not to be taken away" with practical actions。
The second is the dedication of not seeking fame or gain。Deng Jiaxian hid his name for 28 years, during which his wife and children did not know what his work was, and when his mother was dying, he could only hurry back to see her for the last time, and then devote himself to the design of the atomic bomb。Like him, giving up a small family for everyone, dedicating his life to the motherland in obscurity, not coveting fame and wealth, is also the best interpretation of Tsinghua's "action is better than words" school spirit。
